Monolithic Heterogeneous Integration: integrating III-V functionality on Si-CMOSClifton G. Fonstad, Jr. (VBL招聘研究員) Abstract: The seamless, monolithic integration of III-V compounds, and the optoelectronic, electronic, and micromechanical functions they enable, on silicon ICs with no loss in performance or increase in cost is a continuing challenge facing systems designers. Standard hybrid assembly requires cost-performance compromises that become increasingly severe and limiting as the performance of the individual sub-systems continues to increase. We present research on a new assembly and integration technique called RM-cubed Integration (where RM-cubed stands for Recess Mounting with Monolithic Integration). RM-cubed Integration overcomes the normal cost-performance compromises of hybrid assembly by exploiting the advantages of batch monolithic processing and fine-line lithography that have driven the Moore's law growth of the integrated circuit industry for the past 40 years, along with the best features of hybrid integration, which is also a basic element in all modern electronics. The talk will also highlight the application of RM-cubed technology to optoelectronic integration for biomedical sensing and for inter- and intra-chip optical clock and signal. |

TOXINS OF MARINE ANIMALSBy Dr. V. Arul (Department of Biotechnology, Pondicherry, University ,Pondicherry, INDIA) Abstract:Biotoxinology is the science of plant and animal poisons and is concerened with a vast number of chemical substances. Most of which remains to be characterized. Biotoxin are of two types phytotoxins and zootoxins. Marinetoxins is one of zootoxins present in marine animals. These marine toxins are subdivided into those that are poisonous to eat, the oral poisons and those that are administered by venom apparatus, the parentaral poisons. Little is known of the biological significance of marine biotoxins. They offer a spectrum of new or little known molecular structure that the synthetic chemist may ultimately find possible to synthesize and manipulates into useful products. The importance of biotoxins in providing new molecular blue prints merits greater scientific attention than it has received to date. This lecture will focus on a few representative species of toxic marine organisms such as sea snails and sea anemones. 海洋生物に由来する毒素(matine biotoxins)の生物学的な意義についてはほとんど知られていない。このbiotoxinsの研究は有化合物の合成などに新しい指針を提供する。新規分子の設計図としても重要なbiotoxins として、海蛇やイソギンチャクのような毒素器官からの2,3の代表例について講演する。 |

Coherent X-ray Diffraction analysis of Semiconductor Quantum Dot structureProf. Ian K. Robinson AbstractExploitation of coherence is the latest frontier in synchrotron radiation science, presented to us by the technical wonders of the third generation machines, such as Spring8. This talk will demonstrate how coherence can be used to probe new aspects of structure. Three dimensional images of the internal structure within crystals have been obtained on nanometer length scales. Methods are currently under development for preserving the coherence with suitable optics for reaching ever smaller crystalline objects. Individual dislocations and buried quantum dots will be accessible one day. |
